Scentena: AI that has to respect the safety limits of a real craft
Scentena is a tool for people who make perfume, designed, built and run by Viva Studio. It is the product in this portfolio that best answers a question buyers ask about AI features: does the AI do real work, or is it a gimmick?
The problem
Drafting a perfume formula means balancing an idea against a set of hard constraints — the industry's IFRA safety limits — and then doing arithmetic nobody enjoys: getting percentages to add up and converting them into weights for whatever batch size you actually have.
Who it is for
Hobbyist and independent perfumers, working with no sign-up and no payment.
What we built
The features that make up the product as it runs today.
- Describe the fragrance you want, choose the concentration and how you plan to make it, and it drafts a full formula.
- Every material is screened against IFRA safety limits, so a formula respects real caps instead of merely sounding plausible.
- Percentages are converted into gram weights for the batch size you have in mind.
- A manual accord builder does the arithmetic while you make the choices, for anyone who would rather not start from a generated formula.
- No account and no payment, which meant the whole flow had to be fast and self-explanatory.

The hard parts we solved
Any studio can list features. These are the parts that were genuinely difficult.
Constraining a model to rules that actually matter
A language model will happily produce a formula that reads correctly and breaches a safety cap. The work was putting real limits around what it can suggest, so the output is checked against IFRA rather than trusted because it sounds right. This is the pattern behind every AI feature worth shipping.
Arithmetic is the boring part, so the software should own it
Getting percentages to sum correctly and turning them into weights for a given batch is exactly the sort of task people get wrong by hand and resent doing. Taking it over entirely is most of the product's day-to-day value.
No sign-up means no second chance
With no account and no payment there is no onboarding to explain anything, and no email address to recover an interested visitor. Every part of the flow had to be self-explanatory the first time.
